IA Capital cares deeply about people, especially those who live in abusive situations or under conditions beyond their own control.

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 20 to 25% of the homeless population in the United States suffers from some form of severe mental illness. In comparison, only 6% of Americans are severely mentally ill (National Institute of Mental Health, 2009).

This is one reason why IA Capital supports Community Development Corporations and Nonprofits that address these crises. Affordable Housing Developers, Community Development Corporations and Nonprofits are the front-line of defense in this area.

Addressing this issue so families escaping domestic violence and the homeless, such as homeless veterans, are safe and attended to, is the “WHY” when it comes to understanding what is behind the reason we show up each morning for work and why we put in long hours and years of service.

IA Capital supports organization such as Interactive America, who offers transitional housing for homeless veterans as well as battered women; and NeighborhoodWorks, which consists of more than 240 Community Development Organizations – and a support structure built over more than 35 years. We know that’s not going to solve the problem overnight. However, any step in the right direction is better than no step at all.

IA Capital has the resources to amplify the reach of CDE organizations like these so they can build more affordable housing, assist and empower more individuals and transform more communities.
